To Worship is to Leave a Legacy

It is an honor to share, below, this excerpt from a new book released by a dear mentor and friend. As I began to take the plunge, I made it all the way to page 11…reading and rereading THAT page, as my heart resonated and burned with every word. I have a sense that as you read the message from Mary Jean (yes…page 11!), that your heart will also be captured by Holy One.

Mary Jean Powers invites the worshiper to explore the depths of worship, giving opportunities within the journey to love and experience God in Spirit and in Truth. Whether you are new to “the deep dive”, well-versed in it, or somewhere in-between, I believe this study potentially holds keys, new expressions, greater understandings, and language for spaces that you may already be moving in with Him.

If you are interested, here are the links to her website that holds a treasure trove of Kingdom resources, including the book ‘Worship Explorations’. (The main link is also found on this site under the ‘Connection Resources' page.)

TO Worship IS TO LEAVE A LEGACY

By Mary Jean Powers

Art 'Worship Explorations'

Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
    His greatness no one can fathom.
 One generation commends Your works to another;
    they tell of Your mighty acts.
 They speak of the glorious splendor of Your majesty,
    and I will meditate on Your wonderful works.
They tell of the power of Your awesome works,
    and I will proclaim Your great deeds.
 They celebrate Your abundant goodness
    and joyfully sing of Your righteousness.
Psalm 145:3-7 (NIV)

  I am convinced that the legacy left by a worshiper of Almighty God is the fear of the Lord: that all-encompassing, awe-inspiring, abandoned allegiance to the King of eternity.  Worshipers are marked by the legacy they leave – a legacy of the fear of the Lord. Whether it be to their children, their spirit-born disciples, or to the countless ones they will influence yet never meet, there is no doubt for the ones who know them – they belong to God. The worship of God weaves its way in and out of all they do and say. Their lives are immersed in a God-consciousness that settles in the atmosphere. Theirs is a lifestyle of honor for the Holy One. For worshipers, the Spirit’s Presence is as near as the air they breathe.

  I’m not talking about some mystical, super-spiritual hype ad nauseam but simply a humble awareness that things are not as they seem. It’s living in a more real reality than the chair you’re sitting in right now or the coffee you’re drinking. It’s seeing the unseen and hearing the inaudible voice of the Godhead as He is given the platform to be God in each moment of the worshiper’s life.

  Worshipers live – I mean, really live. They laugh hard, play heard, and pray until they pray … or they can sit in restful silence. Their work ethic is honorable, their hearts are generous, their homes are openly gracious and peaceful. Jesus-worshipers are honest, and integrity is their closest friend. They are God-assured, secure in being nobody – or somebody – and they know that they are significant because they have been engraved in the palm of the Prince of Peace. It’s almost as if they can see eternity – and sometimes when you’re with a worshiper, you feel as if you can see it, too. This is the legacy the worshiper leaves.

  Yielded. Surrendered. Loyal. Fixed. These are traits of the one who worships the One-and-Only. Because of these characteristics, it’s easier to wait on the Lord when you’re with a worshiper, easier to pray, easier to ask good questions. There’s freedom to be childlike; you’re more comfortable being human. You realize that it’s OK to not know something; it’s even OK to be weak. This is the legacy the worshiper leaves.

  Maybe that’s it. Once you decide that the ultimate reason to be alive is to know God and live loved by Him, you finally become content with being human. Judgment disappears, criticism ceases, fears dissipate, mockery dies, skepticism lies dormant, and cynicism heals. Being a worshiper of God frees you to love people. Talk about a legacy…
